Emergency Preparedness Index Information
The "Trust for America's Health" publishes the "Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health from Diseases, Disasters, and Bioterrorism" report annually. The report contains state-by-state health preparedness scores based on 10 key indicators to assess health emergency preparedness capabilities. In 2008, Florida achieved 5 out of 10 possible indicators for health emergency preparedness capabilities, placing in the lowest tier of all states. In 2007, Florida achieved a score of 7 out of 10, placing it in the second lowest tier of all states. In 2006, Florida placed in the middle tier of all states. In 2005, 2004, and 2003, Florida ranked among the highest tiers of all states.
