Greenhouse Gas Emissions Information
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection developed a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, by gas and by source sector during the period from 1990 through 2005. The data here represents gross emissions; that is, no adjustments are made for year-to-year changes in the amount of carbon stored, or sequestered, in biomass and soils. To make this inventory more meaningful, all GHG emissions are adjusted by their GWPs and reported in units of “million metric tons of CO2 equivalent.” A million metric tons of CO2 equivalent represents the global warming potential of a million metric tons of CO2. A metric ton is 1000 kilograms, or 2205 pounds.GHG emissions from fossil-fuel combustion are primarily attributable to the utility and transportation sub-sectors, which comprise 48 and 44 percent of emissions from the energy sector, respectively.
